On Wednesday mornings at Kandanga State School, we receive two very special visitors. Amanda and her furry side-kick Scooter, from Story Dogs, come to our school to sit with our Prep and Year 1 readers. Scooter just loves stories, and the students definitely enjoy reading aloud to him and Amanda... although I have it on good authority that his favourite stories do not involve cats!
Story Dogs is run completely by volunteers who donate their time to share their dog's to help encourage our young readers.
Dogs are ideal reading companions because they promote relaxation, they don't judge, laugh or criticise. Most importantly they allow the students to proceed reading at their own pace.
Our young readers are forging quite the relationship with Scooter, he is a very calming presence. Scooter is a ridgeback cross who loves swimming, doesn't love thunder, and his favourite food is liver treats.
Wednesdays have definitely become a day to look forward to.
Thank you Amanda and Scooter!
